Industrial Wind Turbines in Clearview Township

VICTORY!

In August 2017, the Environmental Review Tribunal “revoked “ the Minister’s approval of the wpd Fairview Wind Project.  In September 2017, Clearview Township received a legal notice that the board of directors of WPD Canada had decided against appealing the decision of the Environmental Review Tribunal to revoke the Renewable Energy Approval for the Fairview Wind Project.

Background

CARA and Clearview Township have always been in agreement that large Industrial Wind Turbines are not welcome in Clearview Township.

CARA’s role in the fight started with giving Colin Huisman the opportunity at our 2009 Annual General Meeting to present the facts and concerns; it continued with co-sponsorship with WAIT! (Warning About Industrial Turbines) of a large public meeting in March 2010 where several speakers warned listeners of the implications (over 200 attended); followed by several update presentations at successive AGMs by Peter Goddard, and by Chuck Magwood of Preserve Clearview to provide updates of the legal battle against wpd and the planned Fairview Wind Project at County Road 91 in Clearview.

CARA wrote to its membership in 2013 urging them to write to the Ministry of Environment with a list of concerns.

In 2014, CARA wrote to the Ministry’s Environmental Approvals Branch voicing our concerns.  Click here for a copy of our letter.

CARA also sponsored a public session of candidates seeking to be elected to municipal positions in the 2014 election where wind turbines were a significant issue.

CARA provided modest financial support to Preserve Clearview to assist with its legal expenses.
